The Idea of God Isn't God

There's a difference between believing in an idea of God and actually experiencing God. Most of us live in the first one without knowing it.
Take every human being's experience, every generation that's ever existed, add it all together, and it still wouldn't come close to touching the vastness of what God is. Every concept, every religion, every idea we've built around God is a finger pointing at something none of it can fully hold.
I know that firsthand. For a long time I believed heavily in an idea of God, and I didn't realize it was only an idea. Not the thing itself.
What Happens When You Stop Needing Certainty
When you see it that way, something shifts. It leaves room for a life that doesn't have to be so black and white. There's an enormous amount of joy just in the experience of life itself, once you stop needing to rate and judge everything from a place of certainty.
Using logic to systematize and optimize is part of how we're built. But it's only one facet of us. When you hold some openness and uncertainty about most things instead of needing it all figured out, you open the door to a fuller, more meaningful life. Nothing on the outside has to change. Your understanding of God, of life, of what any of it means for you, that's what can shift how you relate to everything around you.
If any of this lands for you, let's talk. I'd genuinely like to hear what you think.
